I worked with Kesh on my lessons and i can’t recommend him enough. A really patient guy who got his points across well in a friendly manner, and helped get the best out of me and build my confidence. I had previous driving experience and failed my test twice two years ago, only for me to finally get back on it with my driving. Comparing my previous instructor Vs Nadhiir was unreal. Nadhiir made me feel confident on the road and teaches you in such a calm and assuring manner. He’s also very friendly and down to Earth, and I know in the long run he will be a very successful driving instructor despite his young age. I had 25 hours of driving, and not once did I not enjoy my lessons whereas previously I dreaded my hour blocks. But 3 hours a day for almost two weeks with Nadhiir went very fast because he made the experience enjoyable.

How many driving lessons will I need?

45 is the average number of driving lessons needed. According to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), on average, it takes around 45 hours of lessons to learn to drive, with an addition of 22 hours of practising. What are the official DVSA figures for hours spent learning to drive?

According to the figures put out by the DVSA [Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency] the so called “average learner” has an average of 67 hours behind the wheel. This is broken down into 45 hours training with an Approved Driving Instructor and 22 hours of private lessons with a family member or friend.

I have just passed my driving test in under 2 weeks from starting my first lesson with Shaun. Always on time to the minute. Such easy methods of learning and explaining everything in detail – stopping after silly mistakes to explain where I’d gone wrong which helped me so much to get it in my head so that I didn’t do it again. I felt instantly relaxed learning with Shaun – very chatty too which helped as it could have felt quite regimented being I was learning so much in such a short space of time. But I didn’t find any of it overwhelming.

Figures vary a little from month to month but tend to average out at around an 85% success rate! With drivers averaging around the 35 hour mark which is considerably less than the official figures. 10 hours less could equate to a saving of about £240!

How are longer driving lessons more effective?

Drivers benefit from keeping lessons close together and learning to drive in longer sessions. This allows the development of new skills to be achieved quicker and most importantly remembered! With a skilled instructor, a driving lesson lasting 2 to 3 hours is perfectly manageable and enjoyable. If the driving instructor is familiar with providing driving lessons of this duration then you should find the structure of the session varied and interesting way. In short, there are more options available to both instructor and pupil.

Courses with a lower number of hours per day are often referred to as semi-intensive driving courses.

Does a “Guaranteed Pass” Intensive Driving Course exist?

Please, save yourself money and hassle by reading the next paragraph. A “Guaranteed Pass” scheme or course can be misleading as there is no such thing as a guaranteed pass when taking a driving test. You are being mis-sold! Read the marketing or promotion being offered very carefully. In many cases you can’t even find details of the “guaranteed pass” course on the website. You are definitely NOT buying a guaranteed pass – even if the print says just that.

What you will probably find is you are being sold the “insurance” of some more lessons if you fail, or your next test fee paid for. Although this may sound good news you have almost certainly paid for it in the inflated price of the intensive driving course. An instructor may have a genuinely high pass rate but even then there can be no guarantee the next pupil or the one after that will pass. Keep in mind while you’re searching for the best intensive driving course – no driving instructor or driving school in the country can ever guarantee a driving test pass as it is entirely out of their hands. In reality what most of these companies are saying is “if you keep trying with us, eventually you will pass” and we’re prepared to guarantee that you’ll either pass or give up.
